Fentress County is a county located in Middle Tennessee. As of 2000, the population was 16,625. The 2005 Census Estimate placed the population at 17,159. Its county seat is Jamestown. The county has a total area of 499 square miles, of which, 499 square miles of it is land and 0.4 square miles of it is water. Fentress County includes part of Dale Hollow Reservoir and is drained by forks of the Obey and Cumberland Rivers.
