Waiting for spring

Friday, March 2nd, 2012

It’s pouring down rain and the skies are that eerie color of grey black. Storms are supposed to be here all day. Yesterday it was a perfect blue sky day of mid sixty temps and I was lucky enough to spend part of it in the garden. I’m still waiting for the birth of our goat mamas Lizzy and Jane’s babies and yesterday I ordered chicks!

It’s spring in Tennessee and I love it! I saw my first trillium yesterday and more of my favorite wildflowers aren’t far behind. It’s a time of anticipation, expectation and all things are possible in the garden. The garden hasn’t been ravaged by flood, drought or pests yet and I know this will be the best garden yet!

I’m also waiting for the delivery of the Spring issue of Local Table and hope to start getting out and around Middle Tennessee over the weekend and for the next few weeks.

Please let me know if you’d like to help spread the word and put magazines out in your community!

Spring Local Table Set to Arrive

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Wow – it sure has been busy. I truly love spring – the colors, the warm air, the plants poking up through the ground, the birds going crazy, but it sure makes for a busy time. I’ve had a hard time getting my spring garden planted. Between the rain and my work schedule (and a couple of baby goats who I’ve been bottle feeding), I don’t feel like I’m where I should be getting in my seeds and working my beds. There’s even rhubarb ready to pick, but I’ve not had a chance to do anything with it yet. So the garden will be late, but hopefully I’ll get caught up this weekend.

Also, arriving this week is the Spring issue of Local Table. I’m hoping to start getting it into Metro locations by this weekend and out into other areas next week. There is a list of where I’ve put it in the past on the website, so check there if you’re looking for a copy near you. If you know of any locations such as coffee shops, book stores, other retailers you think would be good spots for the magazine, please let me know and I’ll see what I can do to get copies there.

I know lots of folks have been waiting for the list of 2009 CSA (community supported agriculture) farms and the list is bigger than ever. If you’ve got questions about any farms or the process, please visit our community forum at www.localtable.net . We’re hoping to get a community started where folks can ask questions about local farms, swap recipes, get tips on great drives in the country and find interesting and fun sources of local food.
