I must admit, there are no Sunday Pancake mornings in my house. No many how many times my boyfriend requests the sweet breakfast treat I always back down and offer to whip up bacon and eggs. It’s not that I don’t like pancakes, I really do. I am just so bad at making them. The batter comes out too runny and then I burn them on the skillet. And in the end, they just turn into a mess.
Thankfully, I have found an answer to my Sunday morning pancake dilemma. Pfunky Griddle, a quirky local restaurant in Berry Hill, gives diners the chance to flip their own flap jacks on griddles placed on individual tables.
Cooking and eating their cakes is a steal of a deal. The menu boasts all you can eat pancakes for $6.99 for adults and $4.99 for kids 10 and under. The price includes never ending servings of two batters (organic 5 grain and unbleached white), homemade syrup, honey and butter. One “fun” topping is include in the price and each additional topping is $1.50. However, it’s easy to not need the extra toppings if everyone in the group orders different ones and shares. My group of three passed around bananas, blueberries and chocolate chips. Other toppings offered include peanut butter, M&M’s, and coconut flakes.
Each person is given a spatula to work their magic on the griddle. And, with a little encouragement from my friends I was flipping pancakes in no time. While both batters had a sweet flavor, I really enjoyed the organic 5 grain batter. It had a great texture that wasn’t too sweet or airy, but more salty and full of nutritious grains.
If you aren’t craving pancakes, there are plenty of other options to choose from. The Ala Cart menu includes breakfast sausage and bacon, eggs (which you can also cook on the griddle) and granola and fruit. There is also a large selection of panini sandwiches and salads.
PFunky Griddle is open everyday except Monday. And, breakfast is served all day long (of course!) if you get a pancake hankering in the middle of the week!
