Winter at the Nashville Farmers’ Market

Friday, November 13th, 2009

I just received an email from the Nashville Farmers’ Market highlighting the goodies that will be around this weekend…

  • Noble Springs Diary-goat cheese (a delicious variety of flavors) & feta from their farm in Franklin.
  • Rebekah Grace Milk–chocolate, cream, 2%, buttermilk & more in their returnable glass bottles
  • New this Week:  all-natural meals to go from Essentially Natural Foods.
  • Last Saturday for our friends at Hill & Hollow–eggs, cider, some heritage turkeys may still be available for order
  • Check with Walnut Hills for your Winter Meat CSA options
  • Last weekend for our friends at Freedom Tree Farms
  • Smiley’s Late Harvest produce-cauliflower, cabbage, small eggplants, peppers, & potatoes

Winter hours for the market are 8-5 everyday. While the market will slow down a bit in the winter, a handful of local vendors will still be selling their local delights through the season. And, it is the perfect place to stock up on Thanksgiving ingredients!

Ugly Tomato Contest

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Sometimes the ugliest of tomatoes are the best tasting…

If your batch of heirloom tomatoes are looking particularly ugly this year, put down your fork and enter them in the Ugly Tomato Contest at the Nashville Farmer’s market this weekend. Drop off your tomato on Saturday, anytime before 1 pm, at the Farmer’s Market Booth. If your tomato is deemed the ugliest you will win a gift basket filled with a Market t-shirt, a market gift certificate, and a bounty of whatever is fresh that day. The tomato must come from your garden and cannot rotten.

If you are like me and never got around to planting a single veggie this summer you can still participate in the festivities. From 11 am to 2 pm on Saturday there will be an heirloom tasting featuring over 20 different varieties!

Market Celebration

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

If you are looking for something to do on this rainy Saturday afternoon head over to the Nashville Farmer’s Market to check out their Market Celebration

The Farmer’s Market was busy over the winter making improvements and bringing in new vendors and now they are ready to celebrate. This afternoon from 11-2 the market will feature plenty of activites for grown ups and kids….

Beginning at 11 am and continuing every hour until 2, local chefs will be providing demonstrations (and inspiration!) on the cooking stage in the Market House. The featured chefs are Jeremy Barlow from Tayst, Julie Helton of Julie Helton Catering, Joe Shaw of the Standard Restaurant, and Martha Stamps of Martha’s at the Plantation.

Join in the swing with DB and His Men of Action as they play Southern tunes from 12 until 2 on the Market House Stage.

And for the kids….There will be a veggie planting station where they can get their hands dirty by planting organic bean and tomato seeds to add to their summer garden.

Between all the entertainment, there are vendors to browse and plenty of new spring greens (fresh from the farm) to snap up.
